Write. Correct three errors. Publish with a cover made in two minutes.
That's what many imagine self-publishing to be.
In reality?
It's writing between family life, work, and exhaustion. Doing research. Doubting. Rewriting fifteen more pages.
Getting beta-readers to review. Working with a professional proofreader. Creating a cover, delegating. Preparing the blurb, the press release, the SEO (and avoiding classifying a poetry collection as short stories for a year 😅). It's re-reading for the forty-second time. Adding two more pages.
It's managing press services, protecting your files, investing in communication, attending book fairs, bearing the costs.
Doubting at the first negative review. Biting your nails over a typo seen 45 times without noticing it.
Self-publishing is not easy.
It's not a "plan B" because you weren't accepted by a publishing house.
You don't just become an author overnight. You learn. You adjust. You invest.
Self-publishing is a fully conscious choice. With its risks. Its costs. Its freedom.
And I'm proud of it.
Self-publishing isn't easy.
